Just like every seed in our garden grows differently — some need extra sunshine, others prefer gentle shade, some like things wet, and others like things dry. Every child who visits Sprout Dental has their own special way of blooming. When your little one has autism, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, or other beautiful differences, we don't just see challenges; we see a unique sprout ready to flourish with the right care and understanding.
At Sprout Dental, we've learned that the most magnificent gardens are the ones where every plant gets exactly what it needs to thrive. That's why our team has grown special skills in caring for children with developmental, physical, and behavioral differences. We believe every smile deserves to sparkle, and sometimes that just means planting our care a little deeper and tending with extra patience.

Every child is different, and working with them is what makes our job unique. Before your little one's first visit, we love getting to know them a little. What makes them giggle? What helps them feel brave? Is there a song they need playing, or a blanket they can't leave home without?
The more you tell us, the better. Bright lights, certain textures, unfamiliar sounds, we want to know it all so your child walks in feeling like we already know them.
We also coordinate with your child's other doctors when needed, since some medications can affect teeth and gums. And if your little one uses a wheelchair or any other equipment, we're already set up for that too.

We do our best to adapt the experience to your child instead of expecting your child to adapt to us.
If bright lights feel overwhelming, we can dim them to create a calmer environment. For children who are sensitive to noise, we have noise-canceling earmuffs to help make the space feel a little quieter. Our clinics are also wheelchair accessible, and if your child is more comfortable remaining in their wheelchair, we're happy to perform their exam there whenever possible.
Every child responds differently, so we adjust our approach as we go. Before we do anything, we'll show them our tools, explain what's coming next, and check in often to make sure they're comfortable. Some visits take a little longer than others, and that's perfectly okay with us.
The best dental visits start long before you walk through our doors. Here's how we recommend getting your little one ready:
Schedule a hello visit first. Before any dental work, bring your child in just to explore, meet our team, see the rooms, and get comfortable in the space. No pressure, no procedures. Just a friendly first hello.
Pick the right time of day. Let us know when your child typically feels their best, whether that's morning, midday, or afternoon, and we'll build the appointment around that. The right moment makes all the difference.
Many insurance plans, including Medicaid, recognize that children with special needs may require extra time and care, and they often provide enhanced coverage for longer appointments, sedation services, and preventive treatments.
Our administrative team can help navigate the insurance process, explain why specific accommodations are medically necessary, and handle the paperwork needed to support coverage approval so you can focus on your child’s comfort and care.
Every child deserves a dental home where they feel truly seen. If you're looking for a place that gets it, we'd love to meet you and your little one. Give us a call at (570) 253-0358 or stop by any of our four locations in Honesdale, Hamlin, Kingston, and Pittston. We can't wait to welcome your sprout to the farm.

We recommend the first visit by age one or within six months of their first tooth sprouting—just like any child! Early visits for special needs children are especially valuable because they help establish familiarity with our garden and allow us to monitor for any complications related to medications or medical conditions before problems bloom.
Overwhelming moments happen, and we're completely prepared. We never see behavioral challenges as defiance—they're simply your child's way of telling us they need something different. Our team recognizes when children need breaks, comfort measures, or a chance to reschedule. Your child's emotional safety always comes first, even if it means completing treatment another day.
Absolutely! Our garden welcomes every type of sprout. We often perform cleanings and check-ups with children remaining comfortably in their wheelchairs. For children with feeding tubes, breathing equipment, or other medical devices, we work closely with their medical teams to ensure safe, appropriate care.
Yes! We accept Medicaid and understand the special benefits available for children with unique healthcare needs. We'll work with your family to maximize coverage and minimize costs through proper documentation and authorization processes.
For children requiring multiple procedures, we often recommend completing all treatment under gentle sedation or in hospital settings. This approach allows us to finish all necessary work in one visit, avoiding repeated stressful appointments. We maintain hospital privileges and can coordinate comprehensive care when needed.
